Turn your jean pants into distressed shorts

Turn your jean pants into distressed shorts

I was walking through the goodwill and I found these very cute pink jeans and I thought, colored jeans are very in right now. Then I thought well its summer so wearing jeans might not be an option in Georgia, where it is balls hott all day. So I thought, distress shorts, Yes! <3 ;)

(All pictures are taken with an iPhone 4)

What you'll need:

1. Jeans
2. Box cutter or exact o knife
3. Scissors - Make sure they are really sharp. Fabric scissors or tool scissors.
4. Sand paper
5. Pencil
6. Iron
7. Card stock or cardboard

What to do:

1. Put on the jeans and find where you want to cut. Add a little pencil mark onto the pants on only one leg. (It will be uneven if you do both sides while pants are on you.)

If you have a pair of jeans you already like the length of you can simply place those shorts onto the jeans and make a pencil mark on one pant leg.

*If you want them to be cuffed then leave a little extra length for the cuff.

2. Take the pants off and find the mark. Fold the pants in half and draw another mark onto the other leg. Or you can just cut from the first pencil mark you made.

3. Take the leap and cut the legs off. While you are cutting make a slight slant down at the butt line.
** If you cut them straight across your butt cheeks will hang out! LOL

JUST CUFFED:

4. If you want to cuff them, add the cuff and then iron them to keep the cuff.

TO DISTRESS:

5.  If you want to keep the cuff and distress that's cool. I un-cuffed my shorts. You can distress your shorts as much as you want. I just choose four places that I have noticed is normally on distressed jeans and shorts you can buy.

6. The first places is on the coin pocket. Stick your cardboard or fold your card stock into the coin pocket. **Do this step to ensure you do not cut into the other side.  Use your box cutter or exacto knife and cut horizontal lines close together.

7. The second place is on the opposite leg of the short at the end. Put your cardboard or folded card stock in the pants where you plan to cut. **Do this step to ensure you do not cut into the other side.  Use your box cutter or exacto knife and cut horizontal lines close together.

8. The third place in on the back of the shorts on the bottom of the left pocket. Put your cardboard or folded card stock into pocket where you plan to cut. **Do this step to ensure you do not cut into the other side.  Use your box cutter or exacto knife and cut horizontal lines close together.

9. The fourth place is on the back of the shorts on the top right pocket. Put your cardboard or folded card stock into the pocket where you plan to cut. **Do this step to ensure you do not cut into the other side.  Use your box cutter or exacto knife and cut horizontal lines close together.

** If you normally put your phone in your pocket make sure you note which pocket you usually put it in and make sure that it is the pocket with the distress on the top of the pocket. I have a pair of distress shorts that have it at the bottom and I forget and my phone always falls out. So be mindful when creating your distress patterns.

10. To add extra age you can use sand paper around where you cut. I normally sand paper around the edges of the whole pockets. It gives it a cool look.

11. Wash and dry your shorts TWICE completely. Washing and drying twice completely  will ensure the distress to the cuts you made with the box cutter.

Wear & enjoy!
